Liten Buffel - Niagra Escarpment AVA, NY
Patrick Vaughn and Zack Klug of Liten Buffel are two friends on a mission: to make the highest caliber Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Riesling from the Niagara Escarpment AVA and the surrounding Niagara region. Their focus is on terroir driven wines that showcase Niagara’s sense of place. They use sustainably grown grapes, allow fermentation to begin naturally, forgo filtration, and use exclusively neutral oak in order to protect the terroir. The newly planted estate vineyard is comprised of 65% Pinot Noir, 25% Syrah, and 10% Riesling. Liten Buffel sits on a long, slow sloping hill that starts at the Niagara Escarpment, and ends at the ancient Lake Iroquois shoreline ridge. They are at the Eastern edge of the Niagara Escarpment AVA, and our soils are complex silty clay loams over limestone.
